Smoke Tree Farm is situated on 80 scenic acres, 25 minutes northwest of Syracuse in the Town of Lysander.

Boarding

Smoke Tree Farm has been owned and operated by the Smith and Van Patten family since the 1950’s. The family’s life-long dedication and devotion to the horse gives them the ability to manage a boarding facility which caters to the needs of rider and horse.
  • Certification by the New York State Horse Health Assurance Program
  • Wooden fenced paddocks (individual turnout if needed)
  • A nutrition program which includes feed 2 to 3 times daily and hay 3 times daily. Feed supplements are also available.
  • Administration of all medication and basic first aid to the horse
  • Scheduled veterinary and farrier visits
  • Properly maintained riding areas with an indoor arena (60' x 130') and 2 outdoor arenas
  • 2 heated tack rooms, second level heated viewing area, utility room, heated bathroom, office and wash rack with hot and cold water
  • Trimming, bathing, mane pulling and full-body clipping — STF is always willing to teach these activities to customers so they may maintain their own horse

Lessons

Smoke Tree’s philosophy is that, to succeed, all horses and riders need an ongoing instructional program. We offer lessons for all levels of riders, beginner through advance, and are dedicated to fit each individual’s riding needs.
To introduce beginners to horseback riding that do not own or lease, we can provide quality lesson horses/ponies. These horses instill the confidence that is needed to learn the initial building blocks of riding.
Private and group lessons are taught in a positive setting and are customized to educate and challenge rider’s abilities and improve their weaknesses. Both Denise Van Patten and Maureen Farrell take the time to explain to students not only what to do, but the “how” and “why” of what they are being asked to do.

Clinics

We also have stable management programs for lesson students which gives them a chance to learn more than just riding. It gives them an opportunity to be introduced to things they will need to know whether they go on to own or lease a horse or just want to become a true & better horsemen.

Showing

Smoke Tree strongly believes that showing is a testament of the work that one should take the time and effort to do at home. STF shows at a variety of shows ranging from schooling shows for those just starting out as well as USEF “A” rated shows.

Training

Smoke Tree believes that, like riders horses are individuals. As such, each horse has a specific training program designed to meet the needs of that horse. Training can range from full training board to training on a per-ride basis.
